Hello! I’ve prepared a new build that contains 3 new student Tasks, 33 improvements, and 33 bug fixes. Wow, that’s a lot of 3’s! Funny how it turned out this way! (This is also the 450th time I’ve updated the game since the release of the launcher. Which is, uh…a number divisible by 3, I guess?)

September 1st Update

Do you recognize the art style? That’s the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure art style! I’m absolutely delighted to see all 10 rivals drawn in that style!

New Tasks

The following students now have unique Tasks:

  • Kenko (green-haired boy from the Cooking Club)
  • Ajia (black-haired girl from the Cooking Club)
  • Seiyo (blonde boy from the Cooking Club)

This means that all members of the Cooking Club now have Tasks!

The reason why I decided to give these characters Tasks is because befriending Amai’s clubmembers will be necessary for a feature that will be added to Amai’s week in the future. Scroll way down to the bottom of this blog post to learn more about it.

Improvements

  • Some players encounter bugs at the screen where the game lets you choose your screen resolution; the game enters windowed mode with a resolution of 0x0 pixels, the game is unable to exit windowed mode, etc. A debug command has been added to the screen where the player chooses their screen resolution: if you mash the “R” key 10 times, all Yandere Simulator data will be wiped from your computer’s registry. This command may allow players to escape the “stuck at 0x0 resolution” or “can’t exit windowed mode” bugs.
  • If the protagonist walks around with a mop outside of Cleaning Time, other characters will identify the protagonist as suspicious / misbehaving, and she could even get sent to the guidance counselor. However, an adjustment has been made: If the protagonist is using a mop to clean a puddle of water, she will not be considered suspicious. However, after cleaning the puddle of water, she will once again be considered “suspicious” if she continues to carry the mop around for no apparent reason.
  • Some players are fascinated by Kaga’s original concept art. If you’re a fan of this design, there is now a way to see Kaga use this hairstyle in the game: while at school, type “D E B U G” and then type “N O S T A L G I A”, and Kaga’s hairstyle will change to the one from his original concept art! (Note: There is currently a bug that causes some of the polygons in his hair to appear as solid black. This will hopefully be fixed in the next build.)
  • As an optimization trick, if the player was more than 50 meters away from the school plaza, the plaza would not render. However, this means that players who looked towards the plaza from 50 meters away would just see solid green (the color of the grass beyond the school). This was unsightly, so now the player will see a low-resolution screenshot of the school plaza when looking towards it from more than 50 meters away.
  • Previously, when two students were in a relationship, they would leave school early to go spend more time with one another. This was romantic, but also made them poorly-behaved students who were skipping out on cleaning duties, so couples will no longer leave school before cleaning time is over.
  • In-game, Miyuji was playing a red guitar, but in her official artwork, she is playing a black guitar. Her guitar’s texture has been updated to be consistent with her official artwork. (The color of her guitar is actually related to her backstory/lore/the reason why she became a musician.)
  • When the player tries to send Homu’s robot to kill a student who is not a valid target because they are busy in an event, a “BUSY! TRY AGAIN LATER!” error message will appear over that target to let the player know that there is a reason why they are not currently valid.
  • Amai now brings more food with her to her Thursday picnic event. Also, the player can now see her physically carrying the food that she’s bringing to the picnic, instead of the food magically popping into existence once she reaches the picnic.
  • From now on, characters will no longer shove you within 5 seconds of classtime ending. This means that when you stand up out of your seat and run out of class, you are no longer at risk of running into a delinquent who will shove you.
  • Previously, it was possible to repeatedly ask a student to follow you an infinite number of times. Now, a student will only follow you twice, and then will refuse to follow you anymore until the phase of the day has advanced forward.
  • After the player attended class, the “Attend Class” button prompt would not be visible again unless the player moved, requiring players to take a step before they could attend class again. This bug has been fixed.
  • From now on, when bringing the remote explosive to school, the player will transport it in a duffel bag and spawn next to it (instead of the explosive appearing near the lockers without explanation).
  • Previously, when two students were in a relationship, they would not eat lunch, choosing instead to cuddle together. This was odd, so couples will now eat food together at lunchtime.
  • It is no longer possible to “cheese” the struggle minigame by mashing all 4 buttons. You are now required to press only the correct button, and none of the others. Sorry.
  • You might think that something about the interior of Ayano’s home has changed, but it definitely hasn’t changed. It’s definitely the same as always. Definitely…
  • From now on, eliminated rivals will no longer have the “Lovestruck” Persona when you are viewing their Persona while inside of the protagonist’s bedroom.
  • Horuda Puresu no longer reacts negatively to the sight of the player murdering a bully. She now performs the “Evil” reaction, as Yui Rio once did.
  • The delinquents will no longer attend Amai’s bake sale, because buying sweets and pastries doesn’t match their “tough guy” personas.
  • If the player interrupts one of Amai’s events using a stink bomb, Amai will now say a line of dialogue acknowledging the smell.
  • The kotatsu in the Gaming Club is no longer sitting on top of a carpet, since a carpet is already part of the kotatsu’s model.
  • One of the Light Music Club’s guitars had a low-quality texture; it has been replaced with a new, higher-quality texture.
  • Slightly adjusted Itachi’s likes/dislikes to be more consistent with statements I’ve made about him in the past.
  • The kotatsu in the Gaming Club now has a texture that matches the Gaming Club’s color scheme.
  • Improved the texture for the “Catering List” hanging on the wall in the Cooking Club.
  • Amai now uses her new idle animation in the Befriend/Betray visual novel cutscene.
  • The chalkboard in the Meeting Room now has drawings on it.
  • Updated the textures for the furniture in the drama club.
  • Updated the texture for Amai’s phone case.
  • Updated the texture for Amai’s bookbag.
  • Updated Himari’s hair texture.
  • Updated Kenko’s hair model.
  • Updated Sakura’s hairstyle.
  • Updated Miyuji’s stockings.

Fixes

  • Non-English-speaking fans of the game sometimes use third-party mods to translate the game’s text. These mods can cause the game’s text to extend outside of windows. This should no longer occur on the screen where the player is choosing whether or not to accept or decline a student’s Task. English-speaking fans won’t care about this bug fix, but non-English-speaking fans might appreciate it.
  • When the player puts a character into the “kidnapping case,” the character’s hair is deactivated so that it doesn’t clip through the case. However, the hair was getting too deactivated too early, allowing the player to see the character bald for a moment while the lid closed on the case. This oversight has been corrected.
  • If the player dropped a broken car battery at Homu’s feet, she would not accept it as a valid item for her Task. However, if the player approached Homu with a broken car battery in a bookbag, she would accept it as valid. This bug has been fixed.
  • It is no longer possible for the player to set a rival interaction on the school rooftop if it’s the first interaction of the day, since the characters are supposed to change their shoes before going indoors at the beginning of the day.
  • During Amai’s week, if the player advanced to lunchtime before Amai had put her bookbag down at her desk, Amai’s bookbag would appear in Ayano’s classroom and would have the appearance of a 1980s Mode bookbag. This bug has been fixed.
  • If a student’s heart was removed from their body, left on the ground, and discovered by a teacher at the end of the school day, the game would incorrectly describe it as a “blood pool” instead of “body part.” This bug has been fixed.
  • If a martial artist’s sparring partner is not present, they would just stand there in a combat pose. This was not intended; they were supposed to practice a kick animation while waiting for their partner. This bug has been fixed.
  • It was possible to re-purchase the “Headset and Earpiece” and “Directional Mic” an infinite number of times, even though the player only needed to purchase one of them. This oversight has been corrected.
  • If the player killed one of the Cooking Club members on Monday of Amai’s Week before Amai entered school, the Cooking Club members would not move from their spot all morning. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player gave Raibaru a headache, saved the game, and reloaded the game, Raibaru would not enter the “run to the nurse and ask for headache medicine” routine properly. This bug has been fixed.
  • In Custom Mode, any student with the Sleuth Persona outside of the Photography Club would lose the ability to pathfind to their destination properly starting from 4:45 PM. This bug has been fixed.
  • In Custom Mode, if the player chose Ryoba’s “no ponytail” hairstyle for their custom protagonist, the protagonist would appear at school with Ryoba’s default hairstyle. This bug has been fixed.
  • During certain circumstances, when a student spoke to a teacher or a teacher spoke to a student, the student or teacher would move upwards 10 centimeters into the air. This bug has been fixed.
  • In Custom Mode, if the player wore a raincoat or a cult robe and then used the locker in the shower building to change out of it, the protagonist would become bald. This bug has been fixed.
  • If a male student council member saw a corpse and ran over to it to guard it, he would say “Gotta find a place to hide!” instead of a more appropriate line. This oversight been fixed.
  • If the player put Osana’s corpse into the incinerator, Raibaru would stand outside of the incinerator texting as if she expected Osana to be present. this bug has been fixed.
  • If the player interrupted one of Amai’s events while she was holding an object, that object would remain in her hands even after the event had ended. This bug has been fixed.
  • In 1980s Mode, the “radio inside of cardboard box” did not have a cardboard box, making it appear as if it was floating in midair. This bug has been fixed.
  • In 1980s Mode, kidnapping a specific combination of students would cause one of the students to spawn inside of a cardboard box. This bug has been fixed.
  • If Raibaru was moving towards a radio to turn it off, she would perform her walking animation, but would move at running speed. This bug has been fixed.
  • There was a bug that could potentially cause tarp bags in Kokona’s tutorial to automatically destroy themselves upon spawning. This bug has been fixed.
  • In 1980s Mode, when the Science Club performed their club activity, they did so facing away from their science equipment. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player created a Mission Mode mission that involved using a hardware tool, the tool would not spawn at school. This bug has been fixed.
  • During Amai’s week, if the player skipped straight to lunchtime, no food trays would be visible at the bake sale. This bug has been fixed.
  • Because the Tape Player and Directional Mic have no utility in 1980s Mode, they are no longer available for purchase in that mode.
  • Student likes/dislikes could not display while the player was inside of the protagonist’s home. This bug has been fixed.
  • A phone charm was created for Amai, but her phone charm was not appearing in-game! Oops! This bug has been fixed.
  • During Amai’s week, the delinquents did not eat lunch at lunchtime. This was an oversight; it has been corrected.
  • The button prompts for Amai’s sabotageable events appeared in 1980s Mode. This bug has been fixed.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the player from reporting stolen cooking utensils in 1980s Mode.
  • Fixed a typo in Raibaru’s “we should stop being friends” conversation with Osana.
  • Fixed bug that allowed the energy beams in Bad Time Mode to kill Senpai.
  • Fixed several typos throughout 1980s Mode students’ profiles.

Unfinished Feature

I’ve finally decided what kind of functionality to give to the bottom-right icon of Ayano’s phone; it’s going to open up a menu that allows the player to use various different social media apps.

The feature isn’t finished yet, so if you try accessing it, you’ll just see this screen:

The intention is for the “Social Media” button to open up a menu where you will see (at least) 4 different social media apps, each of which will be used for learning different information about your rival. Here’s the current design for the menu:

This is related to my plans for replacing the “Read the rival’s diary” part of the “snoop through rival’s bookbag” feature. I’ll walk you through the way it will work:

First, the player must befriend all 4 of the rival’s friends. After doing this, a new dialogue option will appear underneath the dialogue wheel: “Ask for rival’s social media.” Each one of the 4 friends will tell you about a different one of the rival’s usernames across the various different social media apps that she uses. One friend will tell you how to find your rival’s Sai-Press page, another friend will tell you your rival’s Sai-X username, etc.

After getting her social media handles, you can look her up on social media platforms and see what she has been posting, and/or what kind of posts she has been liking. For example, you will be able to look through Amai’s history of “Liked” posts on Sai-X to find out what kind of boys she finds attractive.

(That’s why I updated the game with the ability to befriend every member of the Cooking Club!)

It’s conceptually similar to the “look through rival’s diary” feature from 1980s Mode, except this time, your rival has four different “diaries,” and you unlock access to them by befriending her friends, rather than just walking up to a bookbag and pressing a button.

Befriending someone’s friends just to cyberstalk them on social media feels a lot more “yandere” than simply looking inside of a bag, right? And it feels a lot more appropriate for 202X, too…at least, I think so.

Although I’ve made progress on this feature, it isn’t finished yet, so you currently cannot open any of the social media apps or browse through any of the rival’s posts. You’ll have to wait until the next update for that. (Also, please don’t judge the temporary placeholder icons too harshly; I plan to replace them with actual icon-looking icons in the future.)

If you’re thinking, “Ew, this feature sounds stupid!” I would like to ask you to please be patient and wait until it’s 100% finished before you judge it.
