October 16th Update

Hey there! Got a new build for you! I’ll just let you know in advance that it’s not a massive, earth-shattering, life-changing build; I just wanted to make sure that the latest build of the game contains all of the most recent bug fixes and whatnot.

Hey, guess what? October 10th, a few days ago, was Ryoba’s birthday! Happy Birthday, Ryoba! To read a list of everything that was added/changed/fixed/improved in the latest build, scroll down past this lovely birthday artwork of Ryoba by Seina!

Did you think I was done sharing birthday artwork? Nope! Please enjoy another birthday illustration by Yana!

October 16th Update

Draining the School Pool

Previously, if the player killed a rival by drowning her in the school pool, it was impossible to access the rival’s corpse and dispose of it. But, starting in this build…

October 16th Update

…it is now possible to use a button prompt in the Pump Room to drain the pool and retrieve the rival’s corpse!

Presently, the rival’s corpse simply teleports to the player’s feet, and the pool automatically re-fills itself. This is not the intended final functionality of this feature, but that’s the way it’ll be for now.

New Voice Acting

Various characters who previously lacked a voice now have a voice!

October 16th Update
  • The “Mystery Man” – the grey-haired old guy in the building under construction in Amai’s stealth mission – now has voice lines.
  • Of the four security guards patrolling in Amai’s Befriend/Betray stealth mission, three now have voice acting.
  • Ajia now has a voice line when telling Ayano what she knows about Amai’s social media.

Improvements

  • I’ve updated Yandere Simulator to the latest version of Unity, which appears to have improved the framerate somewhat. You are welcome to compare the framerate you got on the previous build with the framerate you get on the latest build (in the same situations, of course) and let me know if you observe a noticeable improvement.
  • The photographs of Osana that Ayano stares at during the “Plan how to eliminate Osana” cutscene now look like candid photographs taken in secret while Osana was in town, rather than photographs taken 2 inches away from Osana’s face at school.
  • When incinerating duffel bags in the asylum, any duffel bag you’ve already incinerated will no longer be highlighted in Yandere Vision, allowing you to more easily keep track of which ones you have / haven’t incinerated.
  • The gift shop in town had one of the worst textures in the game (I made it). It has been replaced with a new texture that looks much better. Also, the store’s texture is different in 1989 and 202X!
  • Some of the more recent Content Checklist icons have been updated to more closely match the style of the original icons. You’ll gradually see more icons getting replaced over the next few updates.
  • The transparency effect on Akane’s feather accessory didn’t look correct, so it has been replaced with a new model/texture that doesn’t use transparency.
  • Amai’s phone now has a “Mom is calling” graphic on it during her phone call with her mother.
  • Replaced the icon for the 1980s Mode “fix my painting” Task.
  • The monster in the “Origin Dream” now has animation.
  • Reiichi now has hair physics.

Bugs

  • If the player drowned a student, dismembered them, and the police were called to school, the police investigation sequence would describe the police “discovering a drowned student” instead of discovering dismembered body parts. This bug has been fixed.
  • In the Custom Mode menu, if the player assigned a custom uniform to male students and then tried to return back to normal uniforms, the normal uniforms would retain custom uniform textures. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player activated a Vtuber mode and then went to town on Sunday, the protagonist would look like a fusion of Ryoba and the Vtuber, instead of looking like the Vtuber. This bug has been fixed.
  • In Custom Mode, if the player gave a male student one of the “suitor hairs” and then changed the gender of a rival, the student with the suitor hair would become bald. This bug has been fixed.
  • In the Kokona Tutorial, if the player was performing a “cleaning bloody weapon” animation while a tutorial ended, Ayano would not appear at the tutorial menu screen. This bug has been fixed.
  • In Custom Mode, if the player designed a student with any of the new Student Council hair models, the hair model would appear invisible in the student’s portrait. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player bumped into Sonoko and caused Sonoko to shove them while Sonoko was putting a love confession note into a locker, her pathfinding would break. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player took a photograph of the TV in the Gaming Club, the animation playing on the TV would continue to play, even in the photograph. This bug has been fixed.
  • The lenses of Kuroko’s glasses were tinted black in her student profile picture, making her appear to be wearing sunglasses. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player disabled outlines and then entered one of Kokona’s tutorials, student outlines would return. This bug has been fixed.
  • The whiteboards in the rival bakery were using the wrong model and texture. This oversight has been corrected.
  • Fixed typos in Shoku’s Task subtitles.
  • Fixed typos in Amai’s Task subtitles.

Huh? That’s it?

Well, yes and no! I recently received a lot of new voice lines for various characters (Amai, Inkyu, and some other characters that you probably wouldn’t expect to be getting new voice lines), but their lines were delivered very close to the build deadline, so I didn’t actually have the time to include them in this build. They’ll probably be in the next build, though!

My animator had computer problems over the past 2 weeks, so no new animations got included in this build. However, now that his computer problems have been resolved, hopefully we’ll see some great animations in the next build!

Bottom-of-Blog-Post Fan Spotlight

A fan of the game going by the name of nichaanan20908 cosplayed as Kijiyose Aishi, one of Ayano’s ancestors from the 1800s!

I think she captured the character’s design very accurately! It always makes me super excited and happy when people show appreciation for the game’s more obscure characters!

Pokémon Stream

And now, at the very bottom of the blog post, I’m going to sneak in a tiny bit of self-promotion!

It’s extremely rare for me to ever take a day off; my last break was over a month ago, back on August 28th. These days, I only take a day off when a new game comes out that I’ve been anticipating for a long time…and today is one of those days!

Later today, I plan to stream Pokémon Legends: Z-A! I ordered the physical version of the game, and I plan to stream it as soon as my copy arrives. That might be as early as 2:00 PM in the PST timezone. (If the game doesn’t arrive until super late in the day, then, instead of streaming it today, I’ll simply stream it tomorrow, instead.) If you’re interested, you’re welcome to visit my Kick stream at https://kick.com/yanderedev – I hope to see you there!
