May 1st Update

Got an update for ya! A bunch of different types of improvements were made to the game. To read all about it, scroll down past this adorable video, a Yandere Simulated-themed parody of the School Rumble credit sequence!

Raibaru Update

Raibaru’s original hair model was taken straight from the Unity Asset Store. That hair model has been replaced with a new hair model that has a similar color scheme and shape, but is distinct enough from the previous hairstyle to be considered a new, original hairstyle. Here’s the progress of Raibaru’s evolution over time, with her new appearance featured on the right:

May 1st Update

(Notice that even her iconic loose socks have also gotten an update!)

Here’s a side-by-side comparison of her old portrait and her new portrait:

May 1st Update

As you can see, her eyes are blue now! It might seem like a significant thing to change about her, but I felt that it was important to differentiate her from the assets she was originally built with.

Because Raibaru is the former president of the Martial Arts Club, is stated to be one of the strongest students in school, and canonically defeated every person who ever challenged her to a fight (except one), it would be reasonable to expect her to be noticeably muscular. To reflect her strength, she now has visible six-pack abs when she is wearing a swimsuit on Thursday:

Police Update

Previously, the policemen who appear in the end-of-day police investigation sequence were wearing recolored school uniforms – the blazer uniforms, to be exact. This looked awful, and I’ve finally decided to do something about it. The police of Yandere Simulator now have unique 3D character models!

May 1st Update

Big improvement! I’m very happy with how the new police models turned out!

Food Update

Remember the “prepare breakfast in Ayano’s kitchen in the morning” feature? Now every one of the food items on the menu has a unique 3D model, and Ayano now eats the food with a new-and-improved animation!

May 1st Update

The feature still doesn’t have actual functionality yet, but that’ll come sometime in the future – most likely later this year.

Togo Task Cutscene Animations

Togo’s Task – “protect me from a gang of delinquents that want to beat me up” – has two cutscenes; one plays before the fight, and one plays after the fight. Originally, these cutscenes were just yellow text on top of a black background. Earlier this year, the first cutscene was upgraded to have actual animation, instead of just text – and now the second cutscene has animation, too! Check it out!

A few small tweaks might still be made to these animations (making sure that Togo’s fingers don’t clip through his collar, etc), but, in general, I’m very happy with how they turned out!

By the way, you may have noticed something in the above cutscene – the sky, and the “golden hour” lighting over everything. Previously, in the “beat up delinquents to protect Togo” sidequest, the sky was solid black. From now on, the sky (and the lighting of the scene) will reflect the time of day that the player left school to perform the sidequest. If the player leaves school to help Togo as early as possible (around 3:35 PM), the sky will be blue. However, if the player leaves school to help Togo much later in the day – like, around 5:59 PM – the sky will look as it should during sunset. (I’m kinda proud of this!)

Improvements

Some of these changes to the game are somewhat trivial, while others are kind of a big deal. As always, I’ll list the big improvements right alongside the small improvements, for the purpose of documenting absolutely every change to the game, no matter how significant or insignificant.

  • From now on, if the camera detects that it’s clipping into a wall while the player is talking with a student, the protagonist/camera will slide sideways until the clipping is no longer occurring.
  • Inside of Ayano’s home, if the player had muted the background music before accessing the “Adjust Ayano’s appearance inside of her home” feature, the music of that feature will now be muted.
  • Inside of Ayano’s home, in addition to being able to mute the game’s background music by pressing the “M” key, the player can now un-mute the music by pressing the M key a second time.
  • The animations for Senpai’s Week 2 Monday Cleaning Time “getting soda from vending machine” event have been updated so that he comes into contact with the vending machine properly.
  • The Drama Club’s ceiling/floor/wall textures have been reverted from brown back to purple. They will probably be re-textured yet again right before Kizana is added to the game.
  • The “gazing lovingly at photo of Senpai” animation has been adjusted so that the protagonist’s arms have no chance of clipping into her lower body during the animation.
  • The “police shrug because they can’t figure out who the murderer is” scene now has a new-and-improved shrugging animation to replace the crappy one I made back in 2018.
  • The animations for Osana’s Thursday “vandalizing vending machine” event have been updated so that she comes into contact with the vending machine properly.
  • The polaroid photo that your protagonist holds in Custom Mode will now reflect the appearance of your custom-designed Senpai, rather than Jokichi.
  • The “gazing lovingly at photo of Senpai” animation has been adjusted so that the protagonist’s body is not so stiff when walking/running.
  • The kitchen in Ayano’s home now features the window that is visible in the “Ayano learns how to cook to imitate Amai” cutscene.
  • The chainsaw dismembering animation now has unique sound effects, instead of just re-using the circular saw sound effects.
  • A poster advertising the “Dark Delights” bakery has been added to the street in town where you can buy things from stores.
  • The “policeman looks left and right, searching for evidence of a crime” scene now has a better animation.
  • Ayano’s lines are now voiced in the “Info-chan texts Ayano about Kizana” text message cutscene.
  • The “Senpai meets Kizana” background music has been improved with higher-quality instruments.
  • Updated the textures for the bullies’ sunbathing swimsuits.
  • Updated Hojiro Zameshiro’s hair texture.
  • Updated Supana Churu’s hair texture.

To express gratitude to Yandere Simulator’s most generous supporters, I sometimes add their OCs to the game as playable characters activated by typing in hidden commands at school. For example, typing “PPStarrs” at school will turn Ayano into the OC of PPStarrs, one of the game’s supporters. Recently, I updated the appearance of the PPStarrs easter egg in accordance with the supporter’s wishes. Check it out if you’re interested!

Fixes

  • After I upgraded Yandere Simulator to Unity 6, some players started to encounter crashes in one very specific area of the game – the Osana Befriend/Betray “Stalker House Stealth Mission.” I spent some time investigating the matter, and trying to figure out what made this scene different from any other scene in the project. Eventually, I discovered something – that mission is the *only* place in the game that uses “realtime global illumination.” I have disabled global illumination in that scene to see if doing so will fix the problem. So, if you were encountering crashes in the Stalker House Stealth Mission, please give it another try in this new build!
  • If the player dropped a suspicious object on the ground where 25+ students could see it simultaneously (such as on the ground near where students change their shoes), students could get stuck on each other while trying to pathfind to the object. From now on, only 5 students can investigate an object simultaneously. This prevents the bug from happening.
  • In 1980s Mode, if the player kills the Yakuza’s little brother, the Yakuza disappears from the alley in town. This is intentional. However, in Custom Mode, killing student #79 would also cause the Yakuza to disappear from the alley in town – which was unintentional. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player attempted to kill a student with a strangulation weapon, but was not standing in the correct position for a stealth attack, the player would lose the ability to ever attack any other student for the rest of the day. This bug has been fixed.
  • In 1980s Mode, if the player distracted Senpai while he was on his way to an event, he would perform his walking animation without moving, instead of performing a “reacting to distraction” animation like he was supposed to. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player killed Ai, then, after the memorial to honor her death, the “gym stage curtains” and “idol stage curtains” would exist simultaneously, flickering while trying to exist at the same point in 3D space. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player splashed a student with water and then advanced the day using the “go to class” portal, the player would be able to see the splashed student changing their clothing in the middle of the classroom. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player completed Gema’s Task and then immediately rushed to class and advanced to the next phase of the day before Gema changed his appearance, the bullies would not react to his appearance at lunchtime. This bug has been fixed.
  • In Custom Mode, if the player designed a male sports club student with a very small hairstyle, a “gap” would be visible on his head, exposing the fact that he didn’t have any polygons underneath his hair. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player strangled a victim in front of 4 witnesses, the strangulation animation would end prematurely and the player could walk around freely with a corpse “attached” to their body. This bug has been fixed.
  • In Custom Mode, if the player instructed a student to “Sleep,” they would still notice the player doing things nearby them, even though they were supposed to be unconscious. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player caused a Student Council member to enter the “Hmm…” state, that council member would not acknowledge any “Sneak Panty Shot” that the player was performing. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player activated the “small weapons break after one use” challenge and attacked a delinquent head-on, they would lose the ability to ever attack any other student. This bug has been fixed.
  • Because the vending machine models and textures changed, the “Scheme” text describing the vending machine involved in Osana’s Thursday event was no longer accurate. This text has been corrected.
  • If the player tried to gossip with any member of the Photography Club about any student whose Student ID number was lower than 55, they would refuse the gossip. This bug has been fixed.
  • In Custom Mode, if the player gave the rival tan skin and the “Pose for Gravure Photo Shoot” action, her skin color would change when she changed into a bikini. This bug has been fixed.
  • In Custom Mode, if the player designed a schedule for their Senpai that involved the “Admire” action, their Senpai would get stuck in one spot and never move. This bug has been fixed.
  • In the 1980s Mode delinquent beat-em-up minigame, it was possible for the player to get stuck on the “curb” between the street and the sidewalk. This bug has been fixed.
  • During Ai’s week, if a memorial was held in the school gym, characters would become incapable of correctly pathfinding onto the gym stage. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player ordered cigarettes from Info-chan and was witnessed picking them up, other students would react as though she was stealing. this bug has been fixed.
  • If the player threw a car battery into a puddle of water underneath a drinking fountain, it would not charge the water with electricity. This bug has been fixed.
  • Some users encountered a bug where Ryoba did not have the correct “face shape” in town, only on Sundays. This bug should no longer be able to happen.
  • If the player sedated Chigusa, some of her “simps” would go to the infirmary room and spin in circles indefinitely. This bug has been fixed.
  • In Custom Mode, the player’s custom voice lines were not working properly for the Friday afternoon sabotaged event. This bug has been fixed.
  • Due to a bug, footsteps could not be heard while the protagonist was “gazing lovingly at photo of Senpai.” This bug has been fixed.
  • If Osana was eating a bag of chips, Raibaru was perform her walking animation while not moving anywhere. This bug has been fixed.
  • This whole time, the Headmaster’s door handles were using the wrong texture! Oops! This oversight has been corrected.
  • If Geiju or Shinako were kidnapped, their glasses would clip through their blindfold. This bug has been fixed.
  • Fixed typos in the Schemes/Services/text messages from Info-chan.

Amai’s Birthday

Today is May 1st – the first anniversary of Amai being added into Yandere Simulator, and Amai’s birthday!

@jillglazer

Sweet Talk! This is an early Amai Birthday edit, this was pretty much easy and fun to do! Hopefully, I will make more Amai edits #foryoupagе #viral #amaiodayaka #yanderesimulator #edit #ae

Over the past 2 weeks, I’ve had my hands full with all the things listed above – new assets and bug fixes. I didn’t even remember that it was Amai’s birthday until a few days ago. By then, it was kinda too late to plan anything “big” for May 1st. There were really only two Amai-related things I could consider adding to the game on short notice:

Several different voice actresses have auditioned for Amai over the past year. Many of them did a good job, but it was only recently that I finally encountered a voice actress who I felt was a perfect fit for Amai. She has recorded the lines necessary for the “Senpai meets Amai” cutscene, and I was planning to include them in this update…however, while implementing them, I noticed that the new lines do not sync up properly with Amai’s mouth animation. Either the lines must be re-recorded to sync up with the lip movement, or the animation should be updated to sync up with the new voice lines. I didn’t want the voice actress’ big debut to be spoiled by poor lip sync, so I decided to postpone this until a future update.

A volunteer created a new hair model for Amai. It’s absolutely gorgeous! Earlier today, I began the process of replacing Amai’s original hair with the new hair, so that Amai could get a shiny new makeover for her birthday. However, before the new hair model is added to the game, there are some small tweaks I would like to be made to it. So, this, too, was postponed until a future update.

Because of these last-minute decisions, the only two things that could have made this an “Amai Birthday Update” didn’t make it into the game. I apologize if you were hoping that something Amai-related would be added to the game today, but things just didn’t work out.

Even though *today specifically* wasn’t a historic day for Amai, I still think that Amai’s future is looking bright! Now that I’ve found an actress who is an extremely strong candidate for becoming Amai’s official voice actress, you might start to see a lot of Amai-related content being added to the game soon: voice lines for Amai, animations for any event where Amai is not directly interacting with another character, a new hair model for her – etc! So, even though nothing special happened on her birthday, don’t worry…plenty of Amai-related changes are coming down the pipeline!

Thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!
