October 9th Bug-Fixing Build and More Halloween Merch

Hey! I usually only update the game on the 1st and the 15th of every month, but I’m making an exception today for two reasons: There was a critical bug in the previous build that I wanted to fix as soon as possible, and I wanted to announce that the merch I mentioned in my previous blog post is now available!

You can now get the “Glow In The Dark” version of this year’s limited-time Halloween design at my Crowdmade store! (If you want to wear it by Halloween, make sure to order it before October 16th so that it has time to reach you!)

Improvements

  • Yandere Simulator’s mirrors reflect the environment in real-time. These mirrors are disabled whenever the player is not nearby them, to prevent the player’s computer from doing any unnecessary rendering. However, some players were encountering a low framerate whenever any mirrors were active. So, a new option has been added to the Settings menu: it is now possible to disable mirrors. (This setting will also be used to disable monitors that display a real-time video feed, if such monitors are proven to lower framerate, as well.)
  • Previously, characters would react to pools of blood, blood-stained weapons, corpses, and severed limbs, but would completely refuse to acknowledge bloody clothing on the ground. From now on, characters will react to bloody clothing as well as the other things mentioned above.
  • If you are getting a low framerate in the “Dream” sequences, press the “L” key on your keyboard to lower the camera’s draw distance, which may improve the framerate for you. You can lower the draw distance up to 9 times; after that, it will reset back to default.
  • Killing someone with a shovel will no longer result in being splattered with blood (because the victim is being attacked with the blunt part of the weapon).
  • Killing someone with a pickaxe will now result in being splattered with blood (because the victim is being attacked with the sharp part of the weapon).
  • As a test, short blunt weapons no longer cause the player to become bloody. If this ruins the game’s difficulty balance, it will be reverted.
  • Delinquents will no longer pick up trash during Cleaning Time, because they’re too hardcore for that.
  • The “return to title screen from town” feature now includes an “Are you sure?” confirmation screen.

Fixes

  • If the player used the “Pass Time Book” in the school library to advance the day forward by 30 minutes while students were bringing trash to the incinerator, those students would get stuck inside of the incinerator and become unable to pathfind out of it. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player gave the protagonist any idle animation aside from the default idle animation, then the protagonist would not be able to smoothly transition from a “talking to student” animation to their idle animation. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player eliminated Osana using a fan on the school rooftop, the massive blood stains left behind would not affect the player’s ability to attend class, or be acknowledged by police if they arrived at school. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player eliminated a student using the iron maiden, the massive blood stains left behind would not affect the player’s ability to attend class, or be acknowledged by police if they arrived at school. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player accepted a student’s Task and completed the Task, they would not be able to turn in the Task if they had pestered the student about their Task multiple times earlier in the day. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player pushed a student from the rooftop into a dumpster, saved the game, and then loaded their game, the dumpster would not be in the correct position. This bug has been fixed.
  • If a student witnessed the protagonist repeatedly turning a radio on/off, and then the player attempted to apologize for it, no subtitle would appear. This bug has been fixed.
  • Some parts of Kuroko’s hair were not properly skin-weighted, resulting in parts of her hair clipping into other parts of her hair. This issue should no longer be occurring.
  • If a student was splattered with blood and then the player carried them near a door, the door would obtain a “splattered with blood” texture. This bug has been fixed.
  • During the Alphabet Killer Challenge, it is now possible to adjust the volume of the background music within the Pause Screen’s “Audio Settings” menu.
  • If the player saved the game, loaded the game, then killed a student, School Atmosphere would shoot down to zero immediately. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player brought a scythe to school, saved, loaded, and then tried to use the scythe, it would not function properly. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player was playing the game with a Sony controller, the text on the “Controls” screen would go off-screen. This bug has been fixed.
  • In Custom Mode, if the player gave a student the “LightFire” action, they would not actually light a fire. This bug has been fixed.
  • After joining the Photography Club in 1980s Mode, the camera straps would clip through Ryoba’s chest. This bug has been fixed.
  • Certain characters’ 1980s Mode profile pictures were inaccurate. Their profiles have been updated.
  • It is no longer possible to sabotage Amai’s cake when Amai is less than 1 meter from her cake.
  • Chigusa will no longer offer her Task if all members of the Photography Club are dead.
  • It was impossible to gossip about Sports Club students. This bug has been fixed.
  • Dafuni’s hair would clip through her body when she ran. This bug has been fixed.
  • Horuda’s hair would clip through her body when she ran. This bug has been fixed.
  • Sometimes, the game’s background music would not play. This bug has been fixed.
  • Reverted Saki’s socks texture to a previous version that was not as compressed.

Update Schedule

Because we’re so close to the 15th, and there’s really not much I can accomplish between now and the 15th, I probably won’t release another build on the 15th (unless a critical bug is discovered that makes it necessary to replace the current build ASAP).

I have something special planned for Halloween (all of the models and animations for it are ready!) so the next update will probably be on October 31st (which means that there won’t be a build on November 1st).

Also, I might make a poll soon to ask the fanbase for their opinion on a new update schedule moving forward. I have no specific date planned for this poll, but it might pop up sometime in the 2 weeks following the Halloween update.

Thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!
