The game revolves around Ayano Aishi, also known as Yandere-chan, who is in love with Senpai and will go to great lengths to eliminate any competition for his affection while maintaining the facade of an innocent schoolgirl.
Currently, Ayano and her rivals attend the same school. One rival, Megami, has a clear hostility towards the Aishi family and doesn't consider them innocent. She even threatens Ayano's family with genocide, showcasing her ruthless and cruel nature. The school and the town are separated by a winding path surrounded by trees, ensuring Ayano can't see the town when she is at school.
To maintain a high framerate, the town doesn't need to be rendered, hence it's not visible to Ayano. The game currently offers only two items for purchase through the store. When entering the storage room on the right side of the gym, a Kidnapping Checklist appears onscreen, indicating if the player meets the requirements for a successful kidnapping. After establishing their character, players can dive into the game and complete various tasks to progress. While Ayano may seem invincible, she can still be killed using different methods like poisoning or drowning.
The logo seen on Akademi's front gate and social media page consists of arrows pointing in different directions, symbolizing being the best in all aspects. Players can also access Akademi's social media page. It's possible for players to report a rival to the counselor once a day in order to get them expelled. Buying items on the website requires money, which can be earned through a Part-Time Job.
Joining the delinquents requires a certain level of familiarity. However, joining the Photography Club provides an in-game old camera. The Cooking Club's room is where students prepare and eat meals after school. Doki Doki Literature Club! features a main gameplay element where players must appear normal and avoid getting caught while engaging in criminal activities.
Furthermore, being a popular girl in the game makes it harder for others to become suspicious of your actions, as everyone likes you. Yandere is the first murder simulator that allows players to experience the perspective of an adorable high school girl as she meticulously removes any obstacles between her and her love interest.
