December 20th Update

Sorry for the wait! The new build is finally ready for you.

To see a list of everything that was added / changed / fixed / improved in the latest update, please scroll down past this yandere-themed parody of “Not Cute Anymore” by a Korean girl group named ILLIT!

Amai Bake Sale Changes

In this build, I primarily focused on adding new voice lines, adding new animations, improving events, and making some adjustments to the Bake Sale that I’ve wanted to make for a long time. I’m not done improving the Bake Sale, but in this build, I made *most* of the changes I wanted to make.

Saki, Seiyo, Kenko, and Ajia now behave differently at the Bake Sale:

When no students are present, they will talk amongst themselves.

December 20th Update

When a student shows up, the they turn to face the student with an excited “Oh, are you gonna buy something?!” pose.

December 20th Update

When the student buys food, they will do a celebratory animation.

December 20th Update

When the student eats their food, they will watch the student eat their food happily.

Afterwards, if the student gets sick from the food, they will perform a concerned/confused animation.

December 20th Update

Previously, if the Bake Sale food was making students barf, Amai would keep the Bake Sale open all day. This was kinda illogical. So, from now on, if Amai realizes that her food has been making people barf, she will close the Bake Sale for the rest of the day, starting at 8:00 AM. Afterwards, at lunchtime, the Cooking Club will gather around the Bake Sale table and try to figure out what went wrong, rather than continuing to operate a Bake Sale that they know is making people barf.

    December 20th Update

Some of these animations may be tweaked slightly in the future, but, as they are now, they are roughly representative of my mental image for the bake sale.

    New Voice Lines and Animations

A lot of people felt that much of Senpai’s dialogue during Amai’s week seemed too harsh. I think that one of the main reasons for this is the fact that his dialogue was not voiced, so you couldn’t hear the tone of voice that I intended for him to speak in. (Say “Gee, thanks!” in an appreciative voice, and then say “Gee, thanks…” in a sarcastic voice. Tone is responsible for, like, 90% of how words are interpreted).

Regardless, I still decided to re-write nearly all of Senpai’s dialogue for Amai’s week, and even change the locations of some events, as well. As new voice lines and animations come in, you’ll start to see Senpai’s dialogue transform.

    December 20th Update

The first event to get this treatment is the sabotaged variant of Amai’s Monday Lunchtime event. The event now takes place at Amai’s bake sale table, instead of on the school rooftop. The original premise of the event was, “Senpai decides to not visit Amai’s bake sale because he’s heard rumors that her food is making people puke.” However, I decided to change that premise to, “Senpai shows up at Amai’s bake sale despite the rumors, and Amai has to shamefully admit to Senpai that he shouldn’t eat her food.” I think that this new premise makes Senpai seem like a guy who keeps his promises to you no matter what rumors he hears about you, rather than a guy who just silently ghosts you when he hears bad things about your food.

    December 20th Update

Another event also got voice lines in the latest update: Amai’s “greeting her club after returning from her absence” cutscene. Amai, Shoku, Kenko, Seiyo, Ajia, and Saki all have voice lines now! With 6 talking characters, this event involves more characters talking than any other event in the game!

In addition to those two events, here’s a list of all of the other parts of the game that got new voice lines in this update:

    • A voice actor recorded lines for the first security guard that the player encounters in Amai’s Befriend/Betray stealth mission, but I never actually included those lines in the game. Oops! Those voice lines are now present in the stealth mission.
    • Shoku’s Task is only available in Week 2. If the player tries to ask him for a Task in Week 1, he explains that he has nothing to ask for. This line of dialogue is now voiced.
    • Amai’s “muttering sadly to herself about how sad it is that her club shut down while she was absent from school” event now has voice lines.
    • Ayano’s “I want to ask you something about Amai…” line of dialogue now has an accompanying voice line.

    New Debug Command

It is now possible to activate a free-flying debug camera by entering the Debug Menu and then pressing the “C” key. Press the “Q” key (or the B button if you’re on controller) to return to normal gameplay.

    December 20th Update

In my opinion, this makes it easy to get some pretty cool camera shots that previously weren’t possible!

Maybe this’ll come in handy for Yandere Simulator content creators!

    Improvements

    • Previously, the Genocide Ending Cutscene always used a depth-of-field effect, even if the player had disabled it in the game’s Settings menu. This oversight has been corrected; you can now watch the Genocide Ending Cutscene without depth-of-field by disabling it in the Settings menu prior to activating the cutscene.
    • The Insane Asylum stealth mission now has a checkpoint; if the Evil Photographer’s bag is the last bag you need to burn, the game will automatically create a checkpoint when you step into his room. If he catches you, you’ll be sent back to that checkpoint, instead of having to play the entire mission again.

    Fixes

    • If the player disposed of all short, bladed weapons in school and then activated SNAP Mode, the player would be unable to advance forward through SNAP Mode, since no short, stabbing weapons were available. I thought that I fixed this years ago! But, apparently, the bug was still in the game. It has now been fixed…for real, this time.
    • When Amai’s Bake Sale is happening, ingredients for sweets appear in the Home Ec Room. However, only Amai’s cutting board had the right ingredients; all of the other characters had ingredients for food that is different from what appears at the Bake Sale. This oversight has been corrected.
    • If the player created a Custom Mode playthrough with the Yakuza unlocked, then used Week Select to skip to Week 10 with 74 friends and a reputation of 100, then went to the town on Sunday night, the Yakuza cutscene would play, even though it wasn’t supposed to. This bug has been fixed.
    • If the Genocide Ending cutscene was activated in 1980s Mode, Ryoba would appear with Ayano’s hair style, the subtitles would not use the 1980s style, and the 1980s Mode post-processing visual effects would not activate. These oversights have been corrected.
    • If the Gardening Club shuts down, the club leader changes their routine to an “admiring scenery around the school plaza” routine. However, if this occurred during 202X, the club leader would clip into Senpai in an awkward way. This bug has been fixed.
    • If the player prevents a teacher from coming to class, the students of that class perform a “Huh? Where’s the teacher?” animation. In this circumstances, female delinquents were performing the wrong animation. This bug has been fixed.
    • If the player murdered a student in front of the Journalist, the Journalist would react. However, if the player murdered a teacher in front of the Journalist, he would pretend that he didn’t see anything. This bug has been fixed.
    • There was a bug in the “Magical Mode” of the Magical Girl Pretty Miyuki minigame; the player’s hearts stopped regenerating after 3 hearts, instead of regenerating all the way up to the maximum 5 hearts. This bug has been fixed.
    • At the end of the Alphabet Killer Challenge, the “Press F to kill her” text is now replaced with whatever button is relevant for the input device you are currently using (keyboard, xbox controller, sony controller, etc).
    • The fountain in the center of the school plaza makes water sound effects. These sound effects were audible in the “Senpai is a prisoner in Ayano’s basement” cutscene. This oversight has been corrected.
    • At the beginning of Monday Week 2, if the player immediately saved and loaded their game, Amai would never remove her bookbag or have a meeting with her clubmembers. These bugs have been fixed.
    • If the player saved, loaded that save, then tried to kill Osana by getting her hair caught in fan blades on the rooftop, the fan death animation would not play. This bug has been fixed.
    • Somehow, the button prompt for poisoning Amai’s bake sale ingredients vanished (even though the button prompts for her clubmembers’ ingredients remained). This bug has been fixed.
    • If the player strangled Moeko while she was putting out the fire that she started, Moeko would never release the gardening can in her hand, even in death. This bug has been fixed.
    • In Custom Mode, in the Senpai Shrine, the player would see the Senpai they designed, but not the custom background they had provided the game with. This bug has been fixed.
    • It is no longer possible to wear gloves while wearing a towel.

    Huh? That’s it?

I apologize if this update was underwhelming, and didn’t live up to your expectations. In my annual Patreon Transparency Post, which will be posted in January, I plan to be brutally honest about some of the factors that have been reducing the game’s development speed – not just recently, but over the past 5 years or so.
